Synopsis
La encantadora campesina Giselle está enamorada de Albrecht, quien, bajo su modesta vestimenta, resulta ser un duque. Al descubrir que él no puede casarse con ella porque ya está comprometido, Giselle enloquece y muere. Entonces es acogida por las vengativas Wilis, las almas de jóvenes abandonadas por amantes infieles. ¿Elegirá Giselle castigar o perdonar?
Ballet performance
First premiered in 1841 at the Royal Academy of Music (formerly the Paris Opera), the ballet by Jules Perrot and Jean Coralli—adapted by Patrice Bart and Eugène Polyakov—introduced a new aesthetic into the history of Western dance. Pointe shoes, arabesques, and long white tutus evoke a fantastical and ethereal world that has become the very embodiment of Romanticism.
